January 2023 News & Updates

Happy Friday the 13th!

I spent the first week of January in Savannah, GA resting and recouping from the holiday season. So, I’m going to treat today as the official start of the New Year. Fun fact for your Friday night…Did you know, astrologically, the new year doesn’t start until around March 21? (which also happens to be my birthday)

2023 is shaping up to be a big year for me. My fiancé, Ryan, and I finally set a date for our wedding. Come Friday October 13th, I will be a married woman! Because of wedding planning, time, and financial constraints, I will not be comitting to as many conventions as I usually do. If you want to catch me this year, keep an eye on my con schedule page where I update the events I will be attending.

My creative writing projects for the year include: a collection of thirteen short stories I have set for self-publication in October, a southern gothic YA novel I have been sitting on since pre-pandemic that I hope to start querying by summer 2023, and a folk horror novella that I’m still in the beginning stages of bringing out of the darkness. I have also left a few slots for submissions to magazines and anthologies that I hope to fill.

On the technical writing side, I will still be doing bi-monthly book reviews for Transfiguring Adoption. TA is an adoption/literary non-profit that provides media reviews to foster and adoptive families. The reviews focus on current books, films, and video games, address trauma triggers, and give foster and adoptive parents the resources to talk to their children about real life issues they may face , through the lens of popular media. I joined the team in 2019, and as an adoptee myself, it is a cause close to my heart. I will be handling their YA book reviews this year. If you have any recommendations on which books I should cover, please let me know!

All in all, it’s going to be a busy year. 2022 was the first year since 2019 that felt like I was getting back into the swing of my writing, so I look forward to all the new changes, challenges, and successes that 2023 bring. I’d love to hear from you what goals and/or accomplishments you hope to achieve in 2023. Shoot me a comment or message and let me know.

Cheers to a new year of writing!

It Is Time…

We all know I’m terrible at updating my social media, we know…BUT, I remembered this month, so, here, for the first time ever, literally an HOUR before I leave for Atlanta….my speaking schedule everybody.

This weekend I will be speaking at ConJuration, a fantasy convention located in Atlanta, GA. This will be my 5th year speaking (taking 2020 off for obvious reasons) and I am so thrilled to be returning to what I consider too be a “home con”

If you’re in the area, please drop by. Come to a panel, come to a party, or just say hello (or even better, buy me drink). It’s sure to be rollicking fun, and you’ll get to see me embarrass myself on multiple occasions.
